Product Guide Managed Cloud Servers - Zen Internet

Product Guide Managed Cloud Servers - Zen InternetProduct Guide 1 Cloud computing will be one of a number of technologies to transform the business IT landscape over the coming years, it has been predicted. According to research consultancy Gartner, hosted services will link up with social computing, context- aware computing and pattern-based strategies to add value to UK businesses Scalable Built around your specific requirements, a Managed Cloud server from Zen Internet delivers the right amount of computing resources for your hosted applications and services. This means that you are better able to align what you pay for with what you need. Resources can be added or removed on request; so if you are planning a particular activity which will require more hosting resources then let us

know and we can make these additional resources available to you quickly. Reliable The Hosting environment is self-aware and self-healing. If a host server fails – or needs to go into maintenance mode – then we can automatically shift the hosted Cloud servers to available resources located elsewhere in the resource pool. By protecting against physical host server failure we are able to offer a minimum 99.99% availability SLA. Recoverable As well as ensuring that your Cloud server is available, we also ensure that your server’s data is fully recoverable too. Your data will be backed up on a daily basis and retained for a period of 14 days. In the unlikely event that your server needs rebuilding then we can do so quickly and comprehensively. Fully Managed Our Cloud servers come with a complete management wrap which goes beyond simply provisioning and resource scaling. We also look after the operating systems; ensuring they are hardened, patched, updated and secured. Flexibility & Choice A Managed Cloud Server from Zen Internet delivers an unprecedented level of flexibility and choice. We offer scalable options for Internet bandwidth, server memory, CPU, and data storage; which means that we can build a Cloud server which is tuned perfectly for your hosted applications. We also offer flexibility and choice at the operating system level too; with options for both Windows and Linux platforms. A Managed Cloud Server from Zen Internet aligns itself quickly to your fluctuating hosting requirements; meaning you get a service which is available more, but costs less. Managed Cloud Servers That’s Zen thinking Gartner 4 Zen Internet Zen Internet, an independent Internet Service Provider (ISP), has been delivering services to business and residential users in the UK since 1995. Led by founder and Managing Director Richard Tang, Zen’s mission is to provide the best ISP service in the UK and is committed to investing in the latest technologies and providing high levels of service, support and reliability. Interoute Cloud Servers

Interoute Cloud Serverswww.interoute.comMay/2011 Version: 1.0 Virtual Servers Overview Virtual Servers provide a flexible and rapidly scalable solution, with the same interface experience as dedicated services but with greater availability and a lower cost. A complete solution can be provided from Interoute’s virtual range of servers, storage, firewalls and traffic management. Unlike other cloud services, Interoute's Virtual Hosting leverages enterprise class network, server and storage infrastructure and provides full versions of operating systems and applications. All virtual devices are configured for high availability, so in the event of a hardware failure the service will automatically restart on an alternative, meaning near zero downtime whatever the application. Virtual Servers are provisioned allocating resources from an “in the cloud” shared infrastructure of processors, memory and

storage. Onto this virtual infrastructure, virtual servers are built using the same operating systems as their dedicated counterparts, and include the same (but virtual versions of) hardware found in a traditional physical server, such as a VGA card, CPU, RAM and storage. A solution can be as simple as a single server or as complicated as a multi-tier, multi-server environment using a mix of physical and virtual hardware and operating systems. A Managed Solution may combine one or more servers, firewalls, load balancers and switches dedicated exclusively to you, the customer. Technical Service Details Virtual Servers Specification Table. Parallels® Cloud Server Case Study

Parallels® Cloud ServerParallels ® Cloud Server Case Study Business and Partner Summary ServInt is a pioneering provider of high-reliability, managed cloud hosting services for enterprises worldwide. Founded in Northern Virginia in 1995, ServInt provides a range of infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), virtual private server (VPS), and dedicated server packages to hosting service resellers, web designers, developers, and online businesses in more than 130 countries. Business Challenges As a major hoster, ServInt stores a vast amount of data. The company was looking for a storage solution that was more reliable and scaled better than both direct attached storage (DAS) and network storage options, such as storage area network (SAN) or network-attached storage (NAS). While DAS offers fast performance, it is limited by the

number of disks a server can accommodate. And if the disks cannot keep up with the throughput, the only option is to move up to faster disks, which means losing the investment made in existing hardware. DAS also makes it difficult to migrate customers to a different server without incurring downtime. In addition, with DAS, servers become single points of failure, since if a server goes down, access to the data stored on its disks is lost. Finally, DAS requires hosters to maintain low customer densities on each server in order to ensure enough resources for all customers. Yet hosters’ profitability is directly related to the number of customers they can put on a server without incurring performance degradation. Network storage was also not a good answer for ServInt. Although network storage solutions do scale more easily than DAS, they are slower. Hardware- based network storage solutions are also much more expensive—and once a new generation comes out, they become obsolete and have to be replaced, further increasing costs. ServInt also looked at software-based SAN solutions. Although less expensive than hardware-based SAN, these offered poorer performance and reliability. “When you add the other pieces needed to ensure high performance and reliability, software-based SAN ends up being about as expensive as hardware- based SAN,” said Matt Loschert, ServInt’s CTO. As for other software-based storage technologies, ServInt found that they didn’t have the full range of features the company required. And even if ServInt had been willing to put in the development and integration work needed to add the missing features, these solutions still wouldn’t have had the necessary reliability or flexibility. Business Situation Summary ServInt needed a cost-effective storage and virtualization solution that offered great performance, easy migration, high reliability, and high customer density on each server. Neither DAS nor network storage solutions were able to meet its needs. ServInt was also looking for improvement in its virtualization capabilities. Solution Summary ServInt found what it was looking for in Parallels Cloud Server, which combines a flexible, extensible cloud storage solution with both container-based and hypervisor-based virtualization. Parallels Cloud Storage, the storage component of Parallels Cloud Server, separates storage from computing resources, aggregating disk drives across multiple computers in a cluster and creating a high performance, high reliability, scalable storage pool from existing hardware resources. Benefits Summary • Great performance • Easy scalability • More efficient use of hardware • Easy, fast...
