EMC IT is playing a part in this evolution by taking a structured, planned, and phased approach toward private cloud adoption. Pivotal to this journey are EMC IT’s server virtualization and consolidation efforts, which are designed to optimize both the utilization and elasticity of data center resources, while reducing costs. They are enabling EMC IT to build a new hosting platform on a tiered and shared service model 1 that facilitates the delivery of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to EMC internal customers in an efficient and transparent manner. To achieve its goals, EMC IT is employing a three-phased server virtualization and consolidation strategy.
