1989 Volkswagen Golf I - System/Component Tests
Prior to testing separate components or systems, it is highly recommended that all procedures listed in F - BASIC TESTING article be performed. Since many computer controlled and monitored components will change voltage and resistance valves if they malfunction, it is also recommended that connector pin check diagnosis be performed.
NOTE: Testing of individual components does not isolate possible shorts or opens in the control harness of electronically controlled systems. Use an ohmmeter to isolate shorts or opens in harness. All voltage tests should be performed with a Digital Volt Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megaohm input impedance, unless specifically stated different in testing procedures.
ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES Airflow Sensor (Cabriolet & Fox)
1) Start engine to pressurized fuel system. Turn engine off and remove intake boot from top of airflow sensor. Disconnect coil secondary wire from coil and jumper to ground.
2) Check sensor play by slowly moving plate through travel range with a magnet. Resistance should be felt. Move plate back to the rest position. There should be no resistance. If binding is felt, loosen sensor plate hold-down bolt and adjust plate to center of venturi.
3) If resistance is uneven, remove airflow sensor from housing to clean and lubricate lever assembly. If resistance is caused by control plunger, remove and clean control plunger assembly. If binding continues, replace fuel distributor.
4) Check position of airflow sensor plate. Airflow sensor plate edge must be within .075" (1.9 mm) below the narrowest section of the venturi. See Fig. 1. If not, bend sensor spring until correct specification is obtained. Ensure that there is a small gap between the sensor lever and the control plunger.

BMW E38/E39 On-board Monitor and Navigation System
The On-board Monitor System was introduced as optional equipment on the 1997 MY E38s and E39s. It was made standard on the E38 750iL for 1999 and standard for all E38s in 2000. It uses the latest advances in electronic technology to bring new levels of comfort and convenience to the driver and passengers for control of the audio/communication systems. In addition the Mark I Navigation system is incorporated into the total scope of On-board Monitor Control.
NOTE: The E39 six cylinder models with the On-board Monitor option are equipped with the high version IKE and On Board Computer functions.
The On-board Monitor is essentially a control and display unit. All data processing and calculations are carried out by the individual system control modules. The display data is sent to the On-board Monitor over the various interfaces. The On-board Monitor is mounted in the center dash console. It replaces the Radio/Tape Player, MID and DSP control panel (E38) if equipped.

Visio-OPi-M iPod Interface User's Guide
OPi-M is a direct iPod interface developed for Mercedes Benz vehicles utilizing the MOST fiber optic bus. OPi-M is designed to interface with current versions of the iPod and iPod Nano. Once installed, OPi-M allows the ability to control iPod functions from the vehicle’s head unit, and also allows partial control of iPod functions (volume adjustment and track control) from the vehicle’s steering wheel controls. To minimize driver distraction, the iPod buttons will not respond while the iPod is docked and the OPi-M is active (feature can be overridden by using the manual control feature).
While the iPod is docked with the OPi-M interface, the iPod will automatically begin charging. In order to activate the OPi-M your radio must be in CD changer mode. Vehicles equipped with factory installed CD changers will lose the function of the CD changer once the OPi-M is installed. Vehicles that do not have a factory installed CD changer will not lose any radio functions. Do not be distracted from driving safely! Be responsible! Neither Nav-TV Corp. nor Apple Computer, Inc, it’s regional offices, distributors or resellers accept any responsibility for any damage or injury as a result of OPi-M with the iPod! Exercise good judgment and keep your eyes on the road at all times!
Navigating with the Opi-M User Interface
OPi-M emulates a factory CD changer, and also behaves similarly to the factory CD changer as well. Categorized searches such as Genres, Albums, Artists, or Playlists in increments of five. Below you will find the main buttons used to navigate throughout your categorized searches. We recommend that you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the features and operation of OPi-M while your vehicle is stationary. We incorporated several features into the product to allow quick and safe access to your favorite music or audio files using head unit controls as well as steering wheel controls.
