1988 Mercedes Benz 300CE (124 Chassis) Connecting Test Equipment and Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

Testing with the impulse counter should be carried out for rapid fault diagnosis. The
impulse counter output shows only existing faults, since the ACC system does not have
memory capabilities. If one or more faults are indicated, repair as necessary and repeat
the test. Be sure that fuse #7 is good, the battery voltage is between 11-14 volts and the
temperature selector wheel is set to 22°C.
1. Connect the impulse counter to the on-board diagnostic connector.
Black lead of the impulse counter to socket 1
Yellow lead of the impulse counter to socket 7
Red lead of the impulse counter to battery positive terminal.
2. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position.
The LED "U Batt" will be illuminated. If the LED "U BATT" does not illuminate,
check for voltage between socket 1 of the on-board diagnostic connector and
the positive terminal of the battery. If the voltage is not between 11-14 volts,
check for an open circuit or loose ground connection.
Test for voltage between socket 7 and socket 1 of the diagnostic connector.
The voltage should be 6 - 12 volts.
3. Depress the start button for 2 - 4 seconds.
Fault codes will be indicated by the number in the impulse counter display
window. Take note of the impulse display number.
Faults are displayed in ascending order.
The number 1 indicates that no faults are stored in memory.
During the impulse readout, The LED indicator in the fresh air/recirculation
switch will blink.
4. Repeat step 3 until all faults are indicated. After all fault codes have been
displayed, pushing the start button again for 2 - 4 seconds will repeat the fault code
readout sequence.

The New Mercedes-Benz 3-Cylinder Diesel Engine

For the joint project Smart For four and Mitsubishi Colt, Mercedes-Benz developed a 3-cylinder diesel engine derived from the A-Class 4-cylinder engine. This engine allows both high performance and low fuel consumption. The top version with 70 kW is the world’s most powerful three-cylinder passenger car diesel engine.

In mid-2000, Mitsubishi and Smart began a joint project to develop a four-seater compact car. Their combined efforts led to the idea of transforming a four-cylinder A-Class engine into a three-cylinder diesel engine and installing it in Smart and Mitsubishi compact cars. In addition to the cost benefits resulting from the newly created engine model series, the large individual displacement of a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine leads to better thermodynamic ratios compared to the four-cylinder engine with the same displacement. As a result, a completely new three-cylinder in-line engine producing 50 and 70 kW of power was developed for the diesel version of the Smart Forfour and the Mitsubishi Colt.

The Concept
The stringent guidelines for exhaust emission level Euro 4, as well as fuel consumption, performance, comfort and low manufacturing costs led to a solution with the following characteristics:
- transverse, front installation
- unified combustion chamber as in other Mercedes-Benz CDI engines going on the market in 2004
- four-valve design with built camshafts and roller cam followers
- swirl generation through tangential and spiral intake with infinitely variable swirl control
- exhaust gas turbocharging
- cooled exhaust gas recirculation
- second-generation common rail fuel-injection system with 1600 bar and solenoid valve injectors
- balancer shaft
- dual-mass flywheel
- engine (transmission) control unit (with Green Oak processor)
- powertrain designed for peak pressures of up to 180 bar
- engine mounting as roll axis system.

Framon Sidewinder Instruction Manual

Your new machine will give you years of trouble-free service by following the instructions in this manual & using common sense with the machine. Please read this manual thoroughly and understand how to use the machine & maintain it to ensure a long service life. We would appreciate your taking a moment to fill out & mail your warranty registration card. The Sidewinder is designed to accurately duplicate high security side milled keys. These keys are currently being used by Mercedes Benz, Opel, BMW, Volvo, Saab, Infiniti, Lexus, VW, Audi, and Honda. All of the above keys can be cut using the Framon Sidewinder without the need for adapters or special cutters. Four rubber bumpers are included in the drawer which should be attached to the bottom legs of the machine to reduce vibration & movement of the machine.

Connecting The Machine To A Power Supply
The Framon Sidewinder can be equipped with a 110V AC, 220V AC, or 12V DC Motor. If your machine is equipped with the 110V motor, plug the machine into a properly grounded outlet. If you are planning on using an inverter, we recommend a minimum of 2000-Watt continuous, 4000-Watt peak. If you had your machine equipped with the 220V AC motor, you will need to attach a plug to the end of the cord. For 12 V DC users, you can attach a cigarette lighter plug on the end of the cord (the motor draws 9 amps) or wire the machine directly into your vehicle’s circuits.

Visio-OPi-M iPod Interface User's Guide

OPi-M is a direct iPod interface developed for Mercedes Benz vehicles utilizing the MOST fiber optic bus. OPi-M is designed to interface with current versions of the iPod and iPod Nano. Once installed, OPi-M allows the ability to control iPod functions from the vehicle’s head unit, and also allows partial control of iPod functions (volume adjustment and track control) from the vehicle’s steering wheel controls. To minimize driver distraction, the iPod buttons will not respond while the iPod is docked and the OPi-M is active (feature can be overridden by using the manual control feature).

While the iPod is docked with the OPi-M interface, the iPod will automatically begin charging. In order to activate the OPi-M your radio must be in CD changer mode. Vehicles equipped with factory installed CD changers will lose the function of the CD changer once the OPi-M is installed. Vehicles that do not have a factory installed CD changer will not lose any radio functions. Do not be distracted from driving safely! Be responsible! Neither Nav-TV Corp. nor Apple Computer, Inc, it’s regional offices, distributors or resellers accept any responsibility for any damage or injury as a result of OPi-M with the iPod! Exercise good judgment and keep your eyes on the road at all times!

Navigating with the Opi-M User Interface
OPi-M emulates a factory CD changer, and also behaves similarly to the factory CD changer as well. Categorized searches such as Genres, Albums, Artists, or Playlists in increments of five. Below you will find the main buttons used to navigate throughout your categorized searches. We recommend that you spend some time familiarizing yourself with the features and operation of OPi-M while your vehicle is stationary. We incorporated several features into the product to allow quick and safe access to your favorite music or audio files using head unit controls as well as steering wheel controls.

Beginner's Guide to Certified Used Vehicles

Ordinarily, buying a used car means buying an unknown quantity. Not so when buying certified used vehicles (CUVs), which come with thoroughly refurbished components and factory-backed warranties. When dealers advertise their factory certified vehicles running “like new,” they really mean it.

Factory certification was pioneered over a decade ago by Mercedes-Benz, and today, nearly every auto company offers a certified pre-owned car program. While each manufacturer has different standards, every “certified pre-owned” or “certified used” car will have undergone a thorough inspection, reconditioning, and repair process, and the like-new vehicle will be backed by a factory warranty for a certain number of years or miles.

Once a car is a candidate for certification, each dealership’s expert technicians will put it through an intensive 100+-point inspection, checking every single component for damage or wear. Any problem components will be fixed by refurbishing, repair, or replacement. Finally, a CPO car will come with a factory-backed warranty, usually covering comprehensive repairs for a few months and powertrain repairs for a longer period. Unlike an individual dealership’s warranty, this manufacturer warranty will be honored at any authorized dealership.

BASIC CONTROLS
Power: The sound system will operate with the car's ignition switch in either the PWR on or off position. To operate the radio or the optional CD changer, simply push the power button located at the lower left corner of the radio faceplate. Pushing the power button again will turn the radio off. A tape cassette can be played without using the power button by simply inserting the tape into the cassette port. As soon as the cassette is drawn into position, it will begin to play.

operating modes: tuner, cassette player and CD player (if so equipped).

AUX-IN Mercedes-Benz D2B Fiber Optic Vehicles Installation and Users Guide

Thank you for purchasing our Auxiliary Input Adapter for Mercedes Benz D2B fiber equipped vehicles (AUX-IND2B). This interface is designed to provide a quality sound input to your car’s stereo system. Most frequently our customers use this for iPod or satellite radio. Below is a list of components and tools that you will need. Some you should have received or may have purchased separately.

Please note that your vehicle may vary from what is depicted in this document and ECP, LLC cannot be held responsible for damage as a result of improper installation. If you are not comfortable with what you read we encourage you to seek professional installation assistance.

You will need the following components to complete the installation:
• AUX-IND2B interface module with included cables
• Installation and operations guide
• Wire ties or tie-wraps
• Flat head and Phillips head screwdrivers
• Pliers
• Metric wrenches (for removal of CD changer if applicable)

Everything is mounted in where the current CD Changer is, or where a factory CD changer would be mounted. No wires to cut and in most cases no re-programming at the dealer is required. It will just work!

Becker 4602 Owner's Manual

The radio is theft-protected. If it is disconnected from the vehicle power supply or the power supply to the radio has been otherwise interrupted, “CODE” will appear on the display the next time it is switched on. After pressing the button, the prompt “CODE” is displayed, followed by 4 stars. The four-digit code must then be entered using the multi-function buttons “1-0”.
Example : Code number 1530 (the code number can be found on the enclosed CODE CARD).

Enter the code number using the multi-function buttons. The first star is erased after entering the first digit. The second star is erased after entering the second digit, and so on. The radio automatically switches itself on if the code is correct after entering the fourth digit.

Note:
Never leave the CODE CARD in the vehicle. Keep it in a safe place outside of the vehicle.The accompanying anti-theft sticker should be attached to the inside of the side window.

If an incorrect code is entered, the prompt “CODE” and the four stars are displayed again. If an incorrect code is entered three times in succession, the prompt “WAIT” is displayed and the radio is locked out for approximately 60 minutes. After three more subsequent incorrect entries, the radio is again locked out for approximately 60 minutes.

The new Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class

The second generation of one of the most exciting and successful sports cars on the market is ready to hit the streets: Mercedes-Benz presents the new SLK-Class. Mercedes Bluetooth Upgrade Kit

Once the MBU-2000 connects with a mobile device, the green LED (phonebook upload indicator) starts flashing. The LED flashes each time a connection is established with a mobile phone. As the LED flashes, the MBU-2000 determines whether the mobile phone is phonebook sync compatible and downloads the phonebook contacts automatically. When this process is complete, the flashing green LED becomes a solid green LED.

To transfer new contacts to the Mercedes handsfree/audio system, press the Phonebook Upload/Sync button once to activate it. A “Tel Error” message will appear on the LCD for a few seconds while contacts are being transferred. When the display shows “In Service” or “ViseeO” again, the user can check whether the contacts are in the system memory.

However, when the mobile device does not support phonebook sync, the green LED flashes only a couple of times and then disappears. If this occurs, please go to Subsection B for an alternative method for uploading contacts.

SAFETY REMINDERS
Your Mercedes-Benz is equipped with many safety engineering features, including front, side and window air bags for both the driver and front-seat passenger and rear side air bags. Air bags do not replace your sea belts; they supplement the protection offered by seat belts.

Air bags can help protect you in a severe frontal collision and in certain side impacts, but they do not provide protection in any other kind of collision. Always make sure you and your passengers wear safety belts. Warning: The forces of a deploying air bag can cause serious or fatal injury to a child under age 13. A child under 13 must be seated in the rear seat, belted into an appropriate properly installed child restraint. If the child must be transported in the front passenger seat, the child must be belted into an appropriate, BabySmart™-compatible child seat which will deactivate the passenger front air bag if the child seat is properly installed. See Operator’s Manual for additional warnings and information on air bags, seat belts and child seats.

Types of information:
This approach starts with a survey of all the types of information available in MBAS-Web, ranging from technical datasheets and drawings down to option weights, standard equiment/option codes, engine/ vehicle performance curves etc. Having selected one of the types of information, you may then select the vehicle you are looking for in order to view the selected type of information for this vehicle.
Note: Use this approach to view data of former vehicle generations such as, for example, “old” Vitos and Actros 1 trucks.

A high standard of safety is tradition and a top priority at Mercedes-Benz. Our vehicles are state-of-the-art and this is especially true regarding safety. Our comprehensive safety philosophy extends to providing rescue personnel with specific information about our vehicles. As their top priority is to save lives, the rescue personnel must be able to reach accident victims as quickly as possible without exposing anyone to additional danger.

Rescue services must be properly trained and have knowledge of vehicle-specific air bag packaging as well as information on other components that if handled improperly could prove dangerous to vehicle occupants and/or rescue personnel. Also with increased use of high-strength steels and other less common materials, it is essential to educate rescue personnel on their use in vehicle construction. Mercedes Benz Emergency Response Guide

These guidelines contain several methods for rescuing accident victims from a vehicle. We must emphasize, however, that these guidelines cannot claim to be exhaustive and on no account should they, nor are they intended to, act as a substitute for proper specialist training and the relevant specialized literature.
