www.interoute.comMay/2011 Version: 1.0 Virtual Servers Overview Virtual Servers provide a flexible and rapidly scalable solution, with the same interface experience as dedicated services but with greater availability and a lower cost. A complete solution can be provided from Interoute’s virtual range of servers, storage, firewalls and traffic management. Unlike other cloud services, Interoute's Virtual Hosting leverages enterprise class network, server and storage infrastructure and provides full versions of operating systems and applications. All virtual devices are configured for high availability, so in the event of a hardware failure the service will automatically restart on an alternative, meaning near zero downtime whatever the application. Virtual Servers are provisioned allocating resources from an “in the cloud” shared infrastructure of processors, memory and

storage. Onto this virtual infrastructure, virtual servers are built using the same operating systems as their dedicated counterparts, and include the same (but virtual versions of) hardware found in a traditional physical server, such as a VGA card, CPU, RAM and storage. A solution can be as simple as a single server or as complicated as a multi-tier, multi-server environment using a mix of physical and virtual hardware and operating systems.
