If you use it please send a message to t.d.griffiths@ncl.ac.uk that contains the phrase cognitive_teaching in the title and your specialty and grade in the text. How to use this Booklet This booklet is designed for specialist registrars in neurology but it might also be of use to neuropsychology trainees, psychiatry trainees and medical students. The patients described in the booklet are all referrals to the adult cognitive neurology service in Newcastle run by Tim Griffiths (Consultant Neurologist) and John Welch (Consultant Neuropsychologist). This is a tertiary referral service that sees outpatient referrals and some ward referrals from neurologists in the Northern Region. The clinic serves to give clinical second opinions on cognitive patients (who are in the main under 65) and to identify patients for research by various groups associated with Newcastle University. The patients described here are not intended to be especially unusual. They are actual referrals and the information supplied is pretty much as was available when they were first assessed (with some changes of detail to protect identities). The cases can be worked through in a blind fashion. For those who want specific examples of disorders these are indexed at the end. Each report first describes the history, screening psychological tests, and neurological examination. For initial screening, we use an extended version of the Mini Mental State examination...
